A recent Sperling Stress Index ranked Bismarck, North Dakota as the least stressful city among the 117 smallest metro areas. Fargo-Moorhead, ND-MN was next on the list with a ranking of 116 and Grand Forks, ND ranked 108.

The index is comprised of nine different factors which are associated with stress: unemployment rate, divorce rate, commute time, violent and property crime rates, suicide rate, alcohol consumption, self-reported “poor mental health”, and number of cloudy days.
